History & Legacy

Welcome to #PBIOS2025, one of the largest and most respected gatherings in the oil and natural gas industry. From October 21-23, you'll have the opportunity to engage with over 750 exhibitors across 1,100 booths at the Ector County Coliseum. This year’s show brings the latest technological advancements and significant innovations to the forefront, showcasing solutions that push the boundaries of efficiency, productivity, and resource management. As technology continues to unlock new potential in previously untapped reserves, the Permian Basin International Oil Show stands as the premier platform for these transformative developments.

The Permian Basin has been a cornerstone of oil and gas production since the 1920s, weathering cycles of booms and busts through resilience and innovation. Remarkably, many of the major technological advances in the oil and gas industry over the last 20 years have been pioneered within a 150-mile radius of Odessa/Midland, Texas. From horizontal drilling to enhanced hydraulic fracturing techniques, these innovations have consistently revitalized the basin, underscoring its critical role in the energy sector and its enduring relevance.

The oil show itself has evolved along with the industry. Through economic shifts, global challenges, and a pandemic, the Permian Basin International Oil Show has earned its place as "The Working Man's Show," an event that embodies the spirit and tenacity of the oil and gas community. Today, it’s recognized as one of the world’s largest and most forward-thinking inland petroleum expos.

Held biennially in Odessa, the oil show attracts professionals from around the globe, offering a unique platform to explore the latest technologies, discover innovative equipment, and foster valuable connections. Originally known as the "Little International Show" in 1940, the event paused during World War II but was revitalized by committed Permian Basin oilmen. By 1950, it was back and growing stronger each year. The show remains a nonprofit, volunteer-led event operated by industry experts dedicated to advancing knowledge for both office and field professionals.

Beyond showcasing innovation, the Permian Basin International Oil Show celebrates the industry’s heritage. A fully operational cable tool rig is displayed daily on the show grounds, accompanied by trucks and equipment from the 1930s—a transformative period for the Permian Basin. The Oldtimers' Lounge, featuring historic memorabilia, honors the legacy and resilience of the oil and gas sector.

The Permian Basin International Oil Show is open exclusively to industry professionals for its three-day run, from October 21 to October 23. As an expansive marketplace and international convention, it caters to a wide range of industry roles. Whether you're a chief executive, engineer, geologist, or field operator, PBIOS 2025 offers something valuable for everyone.

From its modest beginnings in 1940 with just 35 exhibitors, the oil show has grown dramatically, embodying the strength of an industry and a region that thrive in the face of challenges. We are thrilled to have you join us in celebrating the ongoing success and resilience of this extraordinary event.
